Abstract

ABSTRACT Gita Maiyi Sumalia, 2018. The Effect of Round Robin Technique on Students Speaking Skill in Describing People at Class VIII of Islamic Junior High School 1 Padang. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of students’ speaking achievement between those taught by using Round Robin technique and those who are taught without using Round Robin technique at class VIII of Islamic Junior High School 1 Padang. This research was experimental research. The population of this study was all of the students at class VIII of Islamic Junior High School 1 Padang that consist of 316 students who were divided into eleven classes. The sample was chosen by using cluster sampling. The result was class VIII6 as experimental class and VIII5 as control class that consist of 31 students. In collecting the data, researcher used speaking test. The test was given to both classes with the same topic. Then, post-test was given after applying the treatments for five meetings to determine the differences of using Round Robin technique. The result of this research showed that the mean score of students’ speaking skill in experimental class (71.17) was higher than the mean score of students’ speaking skill in control class (67.43). While, t-observed (2.382) was also bigger than t-table (1.670). Moreover, each components of speaking both of classes are different. It can be seen from the comparison of students’ mean scores of post-test. Statistically, it is showed that teaching speaking by using Round Robin technique gives significant difference on students’ speaking skill. It can be concluded that Round Robin technique gives significant effect to the students’ speaking skill especially in considering five components of speaking. So, it is recommended for English teacher and should consider the use of Round Robin as an alternative technique in teaching speaking.
