Abstract

This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of shadowing technique in teaching listening comprehension at 7th grade students of SMPN 6 Pariaman. This research was quantitative research with quasi experimental research method. The researcher chose two classes as sample, 31 students in experimental class and 30 students in control class. To collect the data, researcher used a test as a post-test instrument. From the result of analyzing the data using SPSS 25, it was found that the mean score of experimental class is 70.32 and the mean score of control class is 63.33, which identifies that shadowing technique has an influence on students’ listening comprehension. The hypothesis test has a sig (2-tailed) result of 0.003 < 0.05, which means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of shadowing technique in teaching listening comprehension at 7th grade students of SMPN 6 Pariaman.
