Abstract

ABSTRAK AnnisaDjafri, 2018. The effect of Role Play Technique towards Students’ Speaking Skill in Personal Recount at Class X of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan adakah efek yang signifikan oleh teknik role play terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dan untuk menemukan komponen yang meningkat dengan teknik role play di kelas X Madrashah Aliyah Negeri 1 Padang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen. Penelitian ini bertempat di Madrashah Aliyah Negeri 1 Padang. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 239 orang siswa yang terbagi dalam tujuh kelas. Sampel dari penelitian ini dipilih secara pengelompokan sampel yaitu kelas XI IPA2 sebagai kelas ekperimen dan IPA3 sebagai kelas control. Data dari penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan tes berbicara. Peneliti memberikan tes akhir setelah selesai mengadakan perlakuan selama tiga kali kepada grup eksperimen. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam tes akhir peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata di kelas ekperimen (62.45) lebih tinggi daripada nilai tes ahir di kelas kontrol (48.3). Ditambahkan, data dari penelitian ini dianalisa berdasarkan SPSS versi 20 dan ttest yang dikemukakan oleh Gay dan Subana yang diselesaikan secara manual. Dari hasil pengolahan data tersebut diperoleh bahwa t-hitung adalah 3.13 dan t-tabel 1.67 dengan p = 0,05 dan derajat kebebasan 58. Itu berarti bahwa t- hitung lebih tinggi dari t- tabel (3.13>1.67) dan hipotesis diterima. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada efek yang signifikan antara nilai kelas eksperimen dengan kelas kontrol. Secara statistik, hal itu menunjukkan bahwa mengajar berbicara dengan menggunakan teknik role play meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dikelas X IPA2 di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Padang. Direkomendasikan kepada guru bahasa inggris menggunakan role play teknik dalam mengajar berbicara, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Untuk peneliti yang lain disarankan untuk memakai role play dan teknik lainnya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas yang berbeda. The Effect of Role Play Technique towards Students’ Speaking Skill in Personal Recount at Class X of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not role play technique gives significant effect towards students’ speaking skill and to find out components of students’ speaking skill can be affected by role play technique at Class X of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang. The design of this research was Experimental design. The research was located at Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang. The population was 239 students distributed in seven classes. The sample was X IPA2 as experimental class and X IPA3 as control class consisted of 60 students that had chosen through cluster random sampling. The data of this research was collected by using speaking test. The researcher gave post-test after doing the treatment for three meetings for experiment group. The result of this research showed that Role Play can affect students’ speaking skill. The mean score of post-test in experimental class (62.45) was higher than post-test in control class (48.3). Furthermore, the data of this research was analyzed by using statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) version 20 and using T-test proposed by Gay and Subana in manual way. From the calculation of the result of the test, it was indicated that tcalculate was 3.13 and ttable was 1.67 with p = 0,05 and degree of freedom 58. So, it meant that tcalculate was higher than ttable (3.13>1.67) and the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant difference between Experiment class and control class. Statistically, it was showed that teaching speaking by using role play technique makes students’ speaking skill at Class X IPA2 of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang are better than fore. It is recommended to English teacher to use role play in teaching speaking, to improve students’ speaking skill. For other researcher suggested to conduct role play and the other technique in developing students’ speaking skill at the different level of the students. Key note: Effect, Role play, Speaking Skill
