Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using podcast media to improve students’ speaking skills at the eleventh grade of MAS Al-Falah Padang. This research applied a quasi-experimental design with a post-test only design. The samples consisted of 18 students of class XI IPA as the experimental group and 18 students of class XI IPS as the control group. The instrument used was a speaking test that measured pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. The results revealed that the students in the experimental class obtained higher scores than those in the control class in all speaking aspects, especially in grammar and vocabulary, and comprehension aspect. Students taught through podcast media demonstrated clearer comprehension, better pronuncation, but fluency did not show significant improvement, improved sentence structure, and better comprehension. Therefore, it can be concluded that podcast media is effective in improving the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at MAS Al-Falah Padang.
