Abstract

ABSTRACT Oxa Annisa Alhaq, 2017. The Effect of Dictogloss Technique toward Students’ Writing Ability at Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 15 Padang This research was based on students’ low mastery in five components of writing. Students did not know how to start their writing, especially to produce an analytical exposition text. Students got difficulties in generating and expressing ideas/arguments into written form. They also got difficulties in arranging the ideas/arguments into coherent and cohesive paragraph. Consequently writing was hard activity for students. Therefore, it was needed an effort to help students develop their writing ability to be better. One of the efforts was by applying an appropriate technique call Dictogloss Technique. This technique is suggested by Ruth Wajnryb (1990). The purpose of this research was to prove whether or not the students who were taught of Dictogloss Technique have better writing ability in analytical exposition text than those who were taught without using Dictogloss Technique at class XI IPA of Senior High School 15 Padang. This research was experimental research. The population was all of the students at class XI IPA of Senior High School 15 Padang that consists of 154 students who were divided into five classes. Samples were chosen by using cluster sampling. Next, researcher was chosen XI IPA 5 as the experiment class that consist of 31 students and XI IPA 4 as control class that consist of 32 students. In collecting the data, researcher used written test. The test was given to both classes with the same topic. Then, post-test was given after doing treatments for five meetings to determine the differences of using Dictogloss Technique. The data were analyzed by using statistical procedures. The data showed that t-calculate (5.447) was also bigger than t-table (1.670). While, mean scores of students’ writing in experiment class (76.29) was higher than the mean score of students’ writing in control class (67.03). Moreover, each components of writing both of classes were different. Statistically, it was proved that teaching writing by using Dictogloss Technique gave significant difference on students’ writing ability. Therefore, it can be concluded that Dictogloss Technique made the students to write better. ABSTRAK Oxa Annisa Alhaq, 2017. Pengaruh Teknik Dictogloss terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Siswa di Sekolah Menengah Atas 15 Padang. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh kurangnya penguasaan siswa dalam memahami lima komponen menulis. Siswa tidak tahu bagaimana memulai menulis, terutama dalam memproduksi sebuah teks analytical exposition. Siswa kesulitan dalam menemukan ide serta mengekspresikan ke dalam bentuk tulisan. Kemudian mereka juga mengalami kesulitan dalam memindahkan ide-ide tersebut menjadi paragraph yang mudah dipahami. Sehingga menulis adalah kegiatan yang sulit bagi siswa. Oleh karena itu dibutuhkan usaha supaya membantu siswa mengembangkan keterampilan menulis menjadi lebih baik. Salah satunya dengan menerapkan teknik yang tepat. teknik tersebut adalah Dictogloss Technique yang direkomendasikan oleh Ruth Wajnryb (1990). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan apakah siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik Dictogloss memiliki keterampilan menulis yang lebih baik pada Analytical Exposition dari pada siswa yang tidak diajarkan dengan teknik Dictogloss di kelas XI IPA SMAN 15 Padang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas XI IPA SMAN 15 Padang yang terdiri dari 154 siswa dan dibagi kedalam 5 kelas. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan sample kelompok (cluster sampling). Kemudian peneliti mengambil kelas XI IPA 5 sebagai kelas eksperimen yang terdiri dari 31 siswa dan kelas XI IPA 4 sebagai kelas pembanding (kontrol) yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Dalam mengumpulkan data peneliti menggunakan tes tertulis. Tes diberikan sesudah diperlakukan treatment selama lima kali pertemuan untuk melihat perbedaan penggunaan teknik Dictogloss. Hasil data dianalisa dengan menggunakan prosedur statistik, Hasil penelitian menunjukan thitung (5.447) lebih besar daripada ttabel (1.670). Selain itu, nilai rata-rata post-test siswa di kelas eksperimen (76.29) lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata post-test siswa di kelas pembanding (67.03). Apalagi setiap komponen penulisan kedua kelas berbeda. Secara statistik, terbukti bahwa pengajaran menulis dengan menggunakan teknik Dictogloss memberikan perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis siswa. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik Dictogloss membuat kemampuan menulis siswa menjadi lebih baik.
