Abstract
ABSTRACT SariRamadhani, 2018. The Effect of Make a Match Technique towards Students’ Writing Skill in Descriptive Text at Class X of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not make a match technique gives significant effect towards students’ writing skill in descriptive text and to find out components of students’ writing skill can be affected by make a match technique at Class X of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang. The design of this research was Experimental design. The research was located at Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang. The population was 239 students distributed in seven classes. The sample was X IPS1 as experimental class and X IPS3 as control class consisted of 58 students that had chosen through cluster sampling. The data of this research was collected by using writing test. The researcher gave pre-test to the students to identify the students’ basic skill in writing and to know the prior students’ skill in writing descriptive text at the first meeting before doing the treatment. After doing the treatment for four meetings, that class was given post-test. The result of this research showed that the students writing skill in experimental class was better than control class it was prove by the score (80.72) in experimental class and (75.1) in control class. Furthermore, the data of this research was analyzed by using statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) version 20 and using T-test proposed by Gay and Subana in manual way. From the calculation of the result of the test, it was indicated that tcalculate was 7.49 and ttable was 1.67 with p = 0,05 and degree of freedom 56. So, it meant that tcalculate was higher than ttable (7.49>1.67) and the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant effect on students’ writing skill in Experiment class. Statistically, it was showed that teaching writing by using make a match technique improved students’ writing skill at Class X IPS1 of Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang. It is recommended to English teacher to use Make a Match technique in teaching writing, to improve students’ writing skill. For other researcher suggested to conduct make a match and the other technique in developing students’ writing skill at the different level of the students.
