Abstract

Writing is one of the skills must be learn by the students. Teaching writing at State Islamic Junior High School 2 Padang through on recount text. Recount text are types of genres which should be mastered by the students of State Islamic Junior High School 2 Padang on writing skill. The research is to analyze the students’ in writing skill on recount text, vocabulary, language use, and mechanic. This research is focused on students’ writing skill in recount text of class IX at State Islamic Junior High School 2 Padang. There were five components of writing based on Jacob scale: content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanic This research was descriptive research. There ware 229 students of class IX at State Islamic Junior High School 2 Padang. To get the data the researcher used simple random sampling technique. The research has taken 13% of population or 4 students for each class as sample of the research. Instrument of this research was written test form paragraph by giving eight topics about recount text. In this test, the students choose one of them . The result of the test analyzed with assessment criterion by Jacob (1981: 90). Based on the result of the test found that the mean score of students based on components writing is 51.37 for recount. It means that the mean of students’ score is below the Minimum Achievement Criteria for English lesson that is 78 point. The maximal score for each component are 26 for content, 17 for organization, 20 for vocabulary, 17 for language use and 4 for mechanics. The highest score that one student got is 83 point and the lowest score is 34 point. Maximal score each criteria of generic structure of recount text is 4. Score orientation of generic structure is 2.96, it means that the rating of qualifications is good. Mean while, series of event the mean score is 1.96, it means that the rating of qualifications is fair. The last, reorientation the mean is 2.6, it means that rating of qualification is good. From the writing can be concluded that the component of writing and generic structure on that haven’t mastered. Thus, it was concluded that the students writing skill at class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 2 Padang still require to be improved. Suggested to English teacher to improve the student writing skill, and also assist them to write down ideas on writing recount texts.
