Abstract

The problems of this research are based on the phenomenon found in the field that most of students had low achievement in producing written text and teacher’s lack of variation technique in teaching English at Junior High School Luhak Nan Duo. Therefore, Scamper technique are proposed to develop students’ writing ability. The purpose of this research was to prove whether scamper technique improve students’ writing ability in recount text in terms of content, organization, language use, vocabulary, and mechanics. This research was an experimental research. The population of this research was the eight class students (101 students) spreading in four classes. The sample was chosen through cluster sampling; consist of 49 students distributed into two classes. These two classes were decided to be control class (VIII. ) and experiment class (VIII. 6 i 5 ). The teacher represents the word SCAMPER, the teacher encourages students to use the Scamper, the teacher asks students use Scamper to analyze the subject, while control class was taught without Scamper technique. Both of classes got the same material and they are conducted by the same teacher. The data of this research were collected by using writing test. The test was given to both classes after doing the treatment for five meeting to know the effect of Scamper technique on students’ writing ability in recount text. The result of this study showed that the mean score of students’ post-test in experiment class (70.79) was higher than control class (65.88). Besides that, t- was also higher than t- (6.73 > 1.671) with the level of significant 5% (0.05) and degree of freedom 47. Statistically, teaching writing by using scamper technique gives significant difference students’ writing ability. table It can be conclude, it is recommended that: English teachers should consider scamper technique in another model such as preparing interesting topics in teaching writing. The other researchers are suggested to carry out further studies about the use of scamper technique in order to get better result than before and hopefully this research can be the beneficial reference.
