Abstract
The background in this research by the low understanding of mathematical concepts of student’s class XI IPA SMAN 1 Linggo Sari Baganti, seen from the average score middle ood semester test student’s mathematics class XI IPA SMAN 1 Linggo Sari Baganti most of which were still below the criteria of minimal mastery (KKM) are 80. The low understanding of mathematical concepts of student’s were caused by various things. One of the causes are that student’s didn’t dare to ask orally to the material that was not understood, so the student’s didn’t understand the material given by teacher, then the learning process undertaken by teachers could not enable student’s to learn. Effort than could be done was to use active learning strategy typed Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) as well as given quiz. Hypothesis in this research was ability comprehension of mathematics concepts the student’s who used type of the active learning strategy Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) as well as given quiz.was higher than the ability to understand student’s mathematical concepts by using conventional learning in class XI IPA SMAN 1 Linggo Sari Baganti. This research was quasy experimental research and Randomized Control Group Only Design with population of this research were all of students class XI IPA SMAN 1 Linggo Sari Baganti as much 154 student’s of academic year 2017/2018. Technique of random sampling obtained class XI IPA.4 as experiment class and class XI IPA.2 as control class. Based on Final test obtained, the two sample classes were normal and homogenous distributed, from the result of this research obtained the average value of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts in the experimental class 82,67 and the control class 74,96. After tested the hypothesis experiment research t one direction, obtained ttable = 1,645 dan tarithmetic = 2,437 whith the level of trust 95%. It means that tarithmetic>ttable,. This shows the accepted hypothesis means student’s with active learning strategy typed Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) as well as given quiz granting is higher than the conventional learning to class XI IPA SMAN 1 Linggo Sari Baganti.
