Abstract

ABSTRACT Tari Rahman. 2018: The Effectiveness of Paired Storytelling Technique towards Students’ Speaking Skill at Class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is significant effect to students’ speaking skill by using Paired Storytelling technique in narrative text at class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan. The design of this research was experimental research The population of this study was all of the students at class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan that consist of five classes with total of students 106 people. This research was started from 5 October - 8 November 2017. For getting the sample, the researcher used cluster sampling which was got two classes as sample. The students of IX B consisted of 20 students as experimental class and 20 students as control class in IX D. Total numbers of sample were 40 students. This research had a speaking test as an instrument to get the data. The result of this research showed that mean scores of students’ speaking in experimental class (67.90) is higher than mean scores of students’ speaking in control class (53.95). From the calculation the result of the test, it is indicated that t-calculate (3.627) is bigger than t-table (1.685). It meant that the hypothesis is accepted. Statistically, it showed that teaching by using Paired Storytelling technique gave improvement for students speaking skill at class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan. It is concluded that Paired Storytelling technique is effective in improving students speaking skill. So, the English teacher should consider that Paired Storytelling is effective technique in teaching speaking to improve students’ speaking skill.
