Abstract
ABSTRAK Azilah Octavia, 2018. The Effect of Describe and Identify Game Towards Students’ Speaking Skill at State Junior High School 3 Sutera Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan adakah perbedaan yang signifikan oleh permainan Describe and Identify terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara teks narrative dan untuk menentukan komponen yang meningkat dengan permainan describe and identify dikelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Sutera. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen. Penelitian ini bertempat di SMP Negeri 3 Sutera. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 83 orang siswa yang terbagi dalam empat kelas. Sampel dari penelitian ini dipilih secara pengelompokkan sampel yaitu kelas VIIID sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VIIIC sebagai kelas control. Dari data penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan tes bebicara. Peneliti memberikan tes awal untuk mengidentifikasi kemampuan dasar siswa dan untuk mengetahui nilai siswa dalam berbicara teks narrative di pertemuan pertama sebelum diberikan perlakuan. Setelah selesai mengadakan perlakuan selama empat kali siswa kembali diberi tes akhir. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam tes akhir peneliti menemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata dikelas eksperimen (77.61) lebih tinggi dari pada nilai tes akhir dikelas control (69.04). Ditambahkan, data dari penelitian ini di analisa berdasarkan SPSS versi 2000 dan ttest yang dkemukakan oleh Gay dan Subana yang diselesaikan secara manual. Dari hasil pengolahan data tersebut diperoleh bahwa t-hitung adalah 41.60 dan t-table 2000 dengan p = 0,05 dan derajat kebebasan 40. Itu berarti bahwa t-hitung lebih tinggi dari t-table (41.60>2000) dan hipotesis diterima. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai kelas eksperimen dengan kelas control. Secara statistic, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa mengajar berbicara dengan menggunakan permainan Describe and identify meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa di kelas VIIID di SMP Negeri 3 Sutera. Direkomendasikan kepada guru bahasa inggris menggunakan permainan Describe and Identify dalam mengajar berbicara, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Untuk peneliti yang lain disarankan untuk memakai Describe and Identify dan teknik yang lainnya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dikelas yang berbeda. ABSTRACT Azilah Octavia, 2018. The Effect of Describe and Identify Game Towards Students’ Speaking Skill at State Junior High School 3 Sutera The purpose of this research was to find out whether or not Describe and Identify Game gives significant difference towards students’ speaking skill in narrative text and to find out components of students; speaking skill can be affected by Describe and Identify Game at class VIII of State Junior High School 3 Sutera. The design of this research was experimental design. The research was located at State Junior High School 3 Sutera. The population was 83 students distributed in four classes. The sample was VIIID as experimental class and VIIIC as control class consisted of 42 students that had chosen through cluster sampling. The data of this research was collected by using speaking test. The researcher gave pre-test to the students to identify the students’ basic skill n speaking and to know the prior students’ skill in speaking narrative text at the first meeting before doing the treatment. After doing treatment four meetings, that class was given post-test. The result of this research showed that the mean score of post-test in experimental class (77.61) was higher than post-test in control class (69.04). Furthermore, the data of this research was analyzed by using statistical software program SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Sciences) version 2000 and using T-test proposed by Gay and Subana in manual way. From the calculation of the result of the test, it was indicated that t-calculate was 41.60 and t-table was 2000 with p = 0,05 and degree freedom 40. So, it meant that t-calculate was higher than t-table (41.60>2000) and the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded that there is a significant difference between experiment class and control class. Statistically, it was showed that teaching speaking by using Describe and Identify Game improved students’ speaking skill at class VIII of State Junior High School 3 Sutera. It is recommended to English teacher to use Describe and Identify Game in teaching speaking, to improve students’ speaking skill. For other researcher suggested to conduct describe and identify and the other Game in developing students’ speaking skill at the different level of the students.
