Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether there was a significant effect of using Beelinguapp media on the eighth-grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts at MTsN 6 Agam. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasiexperimental design using the Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students of MTsN 6 Agam in the 2026/2027 academic year. The sample consisted of one experimental class and one control class selected by using Cluster Random Sampling. The experimental class was taught by using Beelinguapp media through an LCD projector integrated with the KWL strategy, while the control class was taught by using the same KWL strategy with conventional learning media. The research instrument was a reading comprehension test consisting of 20 multiple-choice items administered as a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class increased from 57.50 in the pre-test to 81.25 in the post-test, while the mean score of the control class increased from 55.78 to 65.78. The Independent Samples t-test revealed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of Beelinguapp media had a significant effect on the eighth-grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts at MTsN 6 Agam.
