Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of conversational YouTube Videos effectively improves the speaking skills of tenth grade students at MAN 1 Solok. A quantitative quasi-experimental post-test design was used in this study. The sample consisted of 55 students, with grade X.E3 as the experimental group and grade X.E5 as the control group. The treatment used conversational YouTube videos, and the treatment was conducted over four sessions. At the fifth session, students were given a post-test. Both tests were analyzed using an assessment rubric (Hughes, 2003: 132), which covers accent (pronunciation), grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27. The results showed a 2-tailed significance level of 0.002 for the independent samples test, which is less than 0.05. This indicates a significant difference in the post-test scores, with the experimental class achieving an average score of 64.82, compared to the control class’s average score of 54.56. The conclusion is that Conversational YouTube Videos significantly impact students' speaking skills in asking for and giving opinions in grade X of MAN 1 SOLOK.
