Abstract

The aim of this research to find the effect of using presentation, practice, production (ppp) technique to students’ grammar at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 31 Padang. Baker and Wertrup (2000) stated the presentation, practice, production technique is useful in teaching that introduces new vocabulary, grammar, or functional language. A quantitative quasi-experimental type was used in this study. 64 of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 31 Padang where the subject of this study for both experimental and control class. Pre test was given before the treatment. The treatment was teaching by using presentation, practice, production (PPP) technique which was conducted for four meetings. At the end of the treatment, students were given the Post-Test. The result of the data analyzed, it was found that the average of students‟ score for pretest was 59,87 in experimental class and 55.78 in control class, while for the post test was 75.13 in experimental class and 68.31 in control class. And was found ( 2- tailed ) significant 0.022 is lower than 005. It means that the testing of hypothesis null (Ho) was rejected and the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that presentation, practice, production (PPP) technique effective in teaching grammar especislly simple present tense.
