Abstract

This study was motivated by the academic demands faced by final-year students, which may lead to academic anxiety. Social support can help students cope with academic demands, while external locus of control may moderate its effect on academic anxiety. This quantitative study involved 198 final-year students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using academic anxiety, social support, and external locus of control scales and analyzed using simple linear regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with SPSS. The results showed that social support had a significant negative effect on academic anxiety (p = 0.011; B = -0.205). External locus of control significantly moderated this effect (p = 0.015; B = 0.034), weakening the negative effect of social support on academic anxiety. The R Square increased from 0.032 (3.2%) to 0.061 (6.1%) after including the moderator and interaction term, indicating that the model explained 6.1% of the variance in academic anxiety, while 93.9% was attributable to other factors outside the research model.
