Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of instructional media used by the English teacher and the procedures for their use during classroom instruction for the eighth-grade students at MTsN 1 Bukittinggi. The study employs a descriptive qualitative design, involving one English teacher as the research subject. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed qualitatively. The results indicate that the teacher utilizes several types of instructional media: visual, print, and audiovisual. Visual media, such as PowerPoint presentations and LCD projectors, are used to present and explain lesson content. Print media, such as independent learning modules (UKBM) and worksheets, support student exercises and assignments. Meanwhile, audiovisual media are used to facilitate listening activities and pronunciation practice. The selection and use of media are tailored to the lesson content and objectives, the language skills being developed, and the students' abilities. Overall, instructional media are employed during the pre-activity, core activity, and post-activity stages to assist in delivering content, providing exercises, supporting language skill practice, and reviewing students' understanding of the material covered.
