Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the strategies used by an English teacher in teaching English to grade XI students at SMA Negeri 3 Lubuk Basung. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the teacher applies various learning strategies that are adjusted to the material, student characteristics, and class conditions. The most dominant strategies used are small-group discussion and presentation, which allow the integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in one series of learning. The teacher also applies an approach from receptive skills to productive skills and implements differentiated learning according to student abilities. These findings indicate that the strategies used are able to increase students' active participation, self-confidence, and communication skills. This study suggests that the teacher continue developing contextual and adaptive strategies in accordance with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.
