Abstract

ABSTRACT VIRDA SARI (2017): The Effect of Listing Technique toward Students’ Writing Ability at State Junior High School 1 Kubung. This study was based on the phenomenon that most students at class IX Junior High School 1 Kubung had some problems in writing. The researcher used Listing technique to solve the problems. Listing technique helped students to organize their ideas in a good sentences and organization. The purpose of this research was to prove that students who were taught by using Listing technique would have better score in procedure text. So it was necessary to describe aspects of writing components that improved through the implementation of the technique. The population of this research was students at class IX of Junior High School 1 Kubung that consisted of 173 students distributed in six classes. The sample was chosen through simple cluster sampling, consisted of 29 students distributed in one class. IX 5 was decided to be experimental class. The data of this research was collected by using writing test. The researcher gave pre-test to the students to identify the students basic skill in writing or to know the prior students’ skill in writing procedure text at the first meeting before doing the treatment. After doing the treatment in four meetings, that class was given post-test to know the effect of listing technique to students’ writing ability. The research showed that in post-test mean score (82) was higher than mean scores of pre-test (50). Aspects of writing components that improved significantly were content, organization and language use. From the calculation of the result of the test, it was indicated that the tcalculated was 17.17 and ttable was 1.70 with p=0.05% and degree of freedom 28. So, it means that tcalculated was bigger than ttable (17.17>1.70). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. Based on the analysis of the data above, it is concluded that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. Statistically, it was showed that teaching writing by using listing technique improved students’ writing skill at class IX 5 of Junior High School 1 Kubung. Although not all of writing components that improved significantly. So, it is suggested that the English teacher should consider listing technique in teaching writing with appropriate way and material to achieve the better result. ABSTRAK VIRDA SARI (2017): Pengaruh Teknik Listing terhadap Kemampuan Menulis siswa di Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Kubung Penelitian ini di dasari oleh fenomena bahwa siswa di kelas IX SMPN1 Kubung mempunyai beberapa masalah dalam menulis. Untuk itu peneliti menggunakan teknik Listing untuk menyelesaikan masalah penelitian ini. Teknik listing membantu siswa menyusun ide-ide mereka dalam susunan paragraph yang bagus. Tujuan dari paragraph ini adalah untuk membuktikan bahwa siswa yang diajarkan dengan teknik Listing akan meraih nilai yang lebih baik dalam menulis. Sehingga penting untuk menjelaskan aspek-aspek menulis yang di tingkatkan oleh teknik ini. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IX SMPN 1 Kubung yang terdiri dari 173 siswa dalam 6 kelas. Sample penelitian ini dipilih secara acak. Maka kelas IX 5 didapatkan untuk menjadi sample yang berjumlah 29 siswa. Data dari penelitian ini di peroleh dengan menggunakan tes menulis. Peneliti memberikan tes awal untuk mengidentifikasi kemampuan dasar siswa dan untuk mengetahui nilai siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur pada pertemuan pertama sebelum di berikan treatment. Setelah selesai mengadakan treatment selama empat kali siswa kembali diberi tes (posttest). Penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dalam post-test peneliti menemukan bahwa bilai rata-rata (82) lebih tinggi dari pada nilai rata-rata pre-test (50). Komponen menulis yang meningkat secara signifikan adalah isi, struktur, dan penggunaan bahasa. Dari hasil pengolahan data tersebut di peroleh bahwa thitung adalah 17.17 and ttable adalah 1.70 dengan p=0.05 and dan derajat kebebasan 28. Itu berarti bahwa thitung lebih besar dari ttable (17.17>1.70). itu berarti hipotesis diterima dan penelitian berhasil. Berdasarkan hasil analisis diatas dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai pre-test dengan post-test. Secara statistik, hal itu menunjukan bahwa mengajar menulis dengan menggunakan teknik listing meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa di kelas IX SMPN 1 Kubung. Walaupun tidak semua komponen menulis yang meningkat secara signifikan. Jadi, disarankan kepada guru bahasa inggris untuk menggunakan teknik listing dengan cara yang tepat dan materi yang tepat untuk mencapai hasil yang lebih baik.
