Abstract

The inappropriate strategy of teacher in teaching-learning made the students less practice in writing. The students got difficulties to start writing and organize it into well sequences, they lack of knowledge in term of grammar, mechanic and less of vocabulary. Therefore, to improve the students ‘writing skill, it needs an appropriate strategy to make learning more effective. One of the strategies was Opinion Proof Strategy by Bouchard (2005). In this study, the researcher uses Opinion Proof Strategy for experimental class with small groups, depending on specific purpose and some key word. The purpose of this research is to determine whether there is any significant difference on students’ writing ability between the students who are taught by using Opinion Proof Strategy and those who are taught by conventional technique at Class Eleventh of State of Islamic senior High School 5 Agam . Besides that, this research was also aimed to describe the component of student’s writing were mostly improved after using Opinion Proof Strategy. The population of this research was all of the students at class XI IPA, XI IPS, XI PK of State of Islamic Senior High School 5 Agam that consist of 67 students who were divided into three classes. Then, the researcher took class XI PK and XI IPS as the sample that was chosen through simple random sampling. Where class XI PK as the experiment class consist of 26 students and class XI IPS as control class consists of 20 students. In collecting the data, researcher used written test only. The test was given to both classes with the same topic. Then, post-test was given after doing the treatments for six meetings to know the effect of Opinion Proof Strategy. The data was analyzed by using statistical procedures. T- test was used to analyze the students’ post-test scores. The result of t-test (t calculate ) was compared with t at degree of freedom 46 and the level of significant 5% (0.05). The result of this research showed that mean scores of students’ writing in experiment class (66,97) is higher than the mean scores of students’ writing in control class (56,96). It means that teaching writing by using Opinion Proof strategy gave significant difference on students’ writing skill. While, t calculated (4.09) is also bigger than t (2.00). It means that hypothesis was accepted. Moreover, each components of writing in experimental class was also Improve. But the component were mostly improve was content with significant different 2.43 and with comparison 20,13 (experimental class) and 17,70 (control class). table Statistically, it was showed that teaching writing by using Opinion Proof strategy gave significant effect toward students’ writing skill at XI Grade The State of Islamic Senior High School 5 Agam. So, it recommend for English teacher should consider the use of Opinion Proof strategy as a strategy in teaching writing for getting significant effect on students’ writing skill.
