Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the ability of grade X students at Senior High School 1 Silaut to write descriptive text based on generic structure. This research method is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. In collecting data, a documentation research instrument was used. The participants of this study were students of class X SMA 1 Silaut, with a total of 30 students taken from four classes randomly. To analyze the data, data collection, data reduction, data display, and data analysis techniques were used by describing the results of the data obtained. To analyze the data, use the following techniques: data collection, data reduction, data display, and describing the results of the data obtained. The result of the study is: How are the skills of students in the generic structure of writing descriptive text at Senior High School 1 Silaut? There are 28 (94%) who are good at writing descriptive text. While 2 (6%) other students are still not good at writing according to the generic structure of descriptive text, this can be seen from the documentation of the text of each student in class X Senior High School 1 Silaut. However, the connection pattern between the generic structure of identification and description still does not meet the criteria. This research suggests that first, students must learn again how to write well and correctly based on the generic structure of descriptive text. So that in the future you can improve your skills at writing descriptive text. Second, based on the results of the analysis that have been described by researchers, it is hoped that it can be used as an evaluation for teachers in the future. Teachers need to pay more attention to teaching procedures so that students are able to understand the material well. Third, to next research, this research can be used as a reference to do at a higher level of college and also be able to research other types of text such as recount, narrative, and expository.
