Abstract

The English skills of students in class VIII of SMPN 31 Padang was very limited due to several factors, including a lack of student self-confidence, lack of learning motivation and also limited student vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of WhatsApp video had a significant effect on the speaking skills of second grade students of SMPN 31 Padang. The research design used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative research design. The research location was SMPN 31 Padang City. And the sample used was class VIII students. Consisting of 13 experimental class students in shift B and 13 control class students in shift A. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the experimental class and control class, in the use of WhatsApp Video media to improve the speaking skills of class students in class VIII SMPN 31 Padang. So, based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of WhatsApp video media has a significant influence on the speaking skills of students in class VIII of SMPN 31 Padang.
