Abstract
This research aims to find out what are the strategies used by English Teachers in teaching reader comprehension and how to implement these strategies for class X students at SMAN 16 Padang. This study uses a qualitative method. Data was collected from two teachers who taught in class X at SMAN 16 Padang. The instruments for this research are observation checklist and interviews. From the results of research that has been carried out, it was found that there are two strategies that teachers use in teaching reading comprehension, namely scaffolding and QARs (Question Answer Relationship). Meanwhile, for implementing the two teacher strategies, teachers both have the same way of implementing them, for example, forming student study groups and asking several questions related to the text they have read. From the scaffolding strategy, students can develop their ideas and find out the main ideas contained in the text they read, while the teacher's QARs can find out to what extent students can understand what the teacher has taught them. Teachers can also find out the extent of students' understanding in carrying out assignments after reading the text that has been given and students are guided to focus more on the text and understand what the meaning or main idea of the text.
