Abstract

The Students’ Difficulties in Learning English During the Covid Pandemic This study aims to: (1) find out the difficulties that face by students in learning English during Covid pandemic at grade 7 SMP N 10 Padang. (2) find out the factors that make students difficulties in learning English during the Covid pandemic at grade 7 SMP N 10 Padang. (3) find out the efforts done by the teacher to prevent students difficulties in learning English during the covid pandemic at grade 7 SMP N 10 Padang. This is a descriptive research method that employs a quantitative approach. The subjects of this study were 7th grade students from SMP N 10 Padang, with the researcher selecting 54 individuals from 270 students. The researcher employed a questionnaire to collect the difficulties students had while studying English during the Covid pandemic in order to obtain the research data. The problem remains at the Covid pandemic stage. If it is not feasible to administer the questionnaire in person, Google Forms is one of the finest choices. In this scenario, the questionnaire is distributed to students and instructors via WA. According to the findings of this study, children frequently struggle with learning English vocabulary, pronouncing words correctly, and comprehending grammar. It is the result of a number of internal and environmental circumstances, including low intellectual ability, low intelligence, unstable mood, unstable attitudes, the limited senses of sight, and the familial, communal, and educational environments. During the Covid Pandemic, all of these elements combined to create challenges for pupils trying to learn English. In SMP 10 Kota Padang, teachers used two strategies to help students who were having trouble studying English during the Covid epidemic. These strategies included giving pupils immediate rewards to boost their enthusiasm to learn English and subsequently improving grades in this particular case.
