Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find out the students’ Reading Comprehension on genre texts at Class IX of State Junior High School 20 Padang. The research limited on the problematic concern on students’ reading genre hasn’t mastered by the students and component of reading comprehension that has not mastered by the students. The text would be focused on Descriptive, narrative, and recount text.. The method of this research was descriptive research types. The research used random sampling technique to select the sample of research. The amount of the samples involved from this school were obtained after grouping all the first year of students of 248 students from Nine class into high achievement students and low achievement students based on their academic reports by using stratified random sampling, research randomly took total number of students. So, 30 students this school would be chosen to become the sample of this research. Instrument of this research was reading test Based on the result of the test found that students Reading skills The students of third Grade of Junior High School 20 Padang still not maximal in mastering genre text at the level not optimize understanding components of reading comprehension. The students still not maximal in mastering reading skill. The students’ have not mastered recount and narrative. The students have a good mastering in descriptive text. Then about reading comprehension, the mostly component missed by student are: word reference, inference, Location of Information then following by others. This phenomenon definite us that students still have problems in mastering reading skill It can be concluded that the students were low of reading comprehension was affected by their strategy in reading activity. The teacher suggested: to guided students to use effective strategy in reading activity, optimize the numbers of strategy proposed by the expert and optimize their role in teaching reading for students. This resolution will make change the students reading style and improve their reading skill.
