Abstract

The formulation of the problem of this research, how does the teaching strategies of reading comprehension at State Junior High School 5 Gunung Talang and what strategy is mostly used by English teacher in teaching reading comprehension at State Junior High School 5 Gunung Talang. The method of this research was qualitative research. The subject of this research was English teacher in first grade at State Junior High School 5 Gunung Talang. The instrument of this research were observation and interview. The data was processed in many processes, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The result of the observation found that four strategies that the teacher used, Scaffolding, Think Aloud, Reciprocal Teaching and QARs (Question Answer Relationship). Based on interview the four strategies are, Scaffolding, Think Aloud, Reciprocal Teaching, SQ3R and QARs. Not all of the steps used to implement this strategy are completed. Only a few steps from each strategy, mixed with steps from different strategies. Keywords: Teachers’ Strategies, Reading Comprehension
