Abstract

ABSTRACT Rizka Aulia, 2017. The Effect of Three-Step Interview Technique towards Students’ Speaking Skill at Class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas. The problems of this research that found in the field is the students cannot speak well it is caused the students seldom practicing English speaking with their friends. The students had limited pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and low confidence. After that, they felt afraid and shy to make some errors in English speaking. To overcome these problems, this research was designed to solve the problem using Three-Step Interview Technique. The purpose of this research is to determine whether there is any significant difference on students’ speaking skill between students who are taught by using Three Step Interview Technique and those who are taught without Three Step Interview Technique at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas. The design of this research was experimental research. The population in this research was all of students at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas in academic year 2017/2018. Total numbers of students were 178 which divided into six classes. Cluster random sampling was used in taking the sample. Class VIII.2 as experiment class consists of 30 students and class VIII.3 as control class consist of 30 students. The result of this research shows that the mean score of posttest of experimental class was 70.60 with standard deviation was 5.57 and the mean score of posttest of control class was 63.73 with standard deviation was 11.32. To analyze data, the researcher used t-test formula. It showed that the result of t-calculate was 2.57 while the result of t-table at a level of significance with a= 0.05 and degree of freedom 58 was 2.00. It indicated that t-calculate was higher than t-table (2.57>2.00). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. Based on the analysis data above, it can be concluded that teaching speaking by using Three Step Interview Technique gave significant effect toward students’ speaking skill at class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sungai Beremas.
