Abstract

ABSTRACT Budi Kurniawan. 2018: The Effect of Scaffolding Strategy Towards Students’ Writing Skill in Recount Text at Class VIII of Junior High School 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik The purpose of this research was to find out whether there is significant effect of students’ writing skill in recount text by using Scaffolding Strategy at class VIII of Junior High School 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik Padang-Pariaman. This reseach was experimental research. The population of this study was all of the students at class VIII of Junior High School 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik that consist of four classes with total of students 88 people. This research was started from 2 November-30 November 2017 lasted for six meetings. For getting the sample, the writer used cluster random sampling which was got two classes as sample. The students of VIII.4 consisted of 22 students as experimental class and 21 students as control class in VIII.3. Total numbers of sample were 43 students. This research had a writing test as an instrument to get the data. The result of this research showed that in post-test, the writer found that mean score of experimental class (76.91) was higher than mean scores of control class (71.9). Therefore, t calculated (6.09) was bigger than t-table (2.021). It meant that the hypothesis was accepted. Statistically, it showed that teaching by using Scaffolding Strategy gave improvement for students writing skill at class VIII of Junior High School 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik. It can be concluded that Scaffolding strategy is effective in improving students writing skill. It implies that English teacher can use Scaffolding Strategy to teach writing in order to improve students writing. Key word: scaffolding strategy, writing skilll
