Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the Kahoot website on students’ English reading comprehension at Grade XI of MAM Saning Bakar. This research employed a quantitative approach with a Two Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population of this study consisted of Grade XI students of MAM Saning Bakar. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and consisted of 64 students, with 32 students in the experimental class (XI.1) and 32 students in the control class (XI.2). The experimental class was taught using the Kahoot website, while the control class was taught using conventional learning methods. The treatment was conducted for three meetings. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests administered as pretest and posttest and were analyzed using SPSS version 25. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class increased from 87.78 in the pretest to 93.28 in the posttest, with a gain of 5.50 points. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control class increased only from 87.53 to 88.47, with a gain of 0.94 points. The data were normally distributed, but the variances were not homogeneous. Therefore, the Welch t-test was used. The result showed a t-value of 4.646 with df = 50.07 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of the Kahoot website had a statistically significant effect on students’ English reading comprehension. Kahoot can therefore be considered an effective and interactive learning medium for supporting students’ reading comprehension.
