Abstract

Respiratory diseases are one of the main health problems in children that require quick and appropriate treatment. The limited number of pediatricians and the lack of parental understanding of early symptoms are often obstacles in the early diagnosis process. This research aims to design and build a web-based expert system that is able to diagnose types of respiratory diseases in children, such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, and ARI. This system was developed using the Forward Chaining method, which is a reasoning technique that starts the process of tracking a set of facts or clinical symptoms experienced by the child to produce a final diagnosis conclusion, along with a solution for its treatment. The collection of system knowledge data was obtained through literature studies and direct interviews with pediatricians as experts. This expert system is implemented using the PHP programming language and MySQL database. The results of the system test show that the application is able to provide accurate and consistent diagnostic results according to the logic of expert thinking. With this web-based expert system, parents can conduct independent consultations quickly and efficiently to take preventive measures before further medical examinations.
