Abstract

This article complements of previous studies that did not carefully analyze the relationship between indigenious religion, world religion, and the state. In line with this, two questions can be formulated: first, what is the relationship between indigenious religion, world religion and the state in Mentawai? Second, what is the intersubjective recognition between follower of Arat Sabulungan (Sikerei), follower of world religions and government employees? Specifically, data was extracted and elaborated from Sikerei, Village Government, Islamic figures, Catholic figures and the community. Other data comes from text in the form of previous studies that are relevant to analyzing the focus of this study. This article shows a dynamic recognition of Arat Sabulungan in Mentawai. This article also proves that the socio-cultural life of the Mentawai people, especially in Matotonan village, shows that recognition of Arat Sabulungan in Mentawai does not only occur at the level of intercultural relations but extends to the anthropological realm. Sikerei, follower of world religions and government employees have constructed themselves as subjects through intersubjective recognition. The subject construction process occurs in love, law and solidarity.
