Abstract

This study aims to investigates the level of questions used by an English teacher in EFL classroom interaction at MAN 3 Padang based on the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and examines the teacher’s questioning strategies based on Goodwin theory. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data were collected through three classroom observations using an observation sheet, field notes, and video recordings. The findings show that the teacher used three of the six cognitive levels of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy: remembering (C1), understanding (C2), and analyzing (C4). The findings also reveal that the teacher employed questioning strategies consisting of wait time and handling student responses through reinforcement, probing, refocusing, redirecting, and rephrasing. Overall, the teacher’s questioning practices were dominated by lower-order cognitive questions, although analytical questions provided some opportunities for students to engage in higher-order thinking.
