Abstract

Reading comprehension is one of the essential skills in english learning. However, students at MTsS Darul Fikri still faced difficulties in understanding recount texts due to low interest in learning English, limited vocabulary mastery, and unstructured learning habits. This research aimed to to determine significant effect of animation video in reading comprehension of recount text at the eighth grade of MTsS Darul Fikri. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments. The sample consisted of 40 students divided into a control class (VIII.1, n=19) and an experimental class (VIII.2, n=21), selected through convenience sampling. The experimental group was taught using animation video, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected through 20 multiple-choice items measuring five reading comprehension aspects: determining main idea, reference, inference, detailed information, and vocabulary. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a notably higher post-test mean score (M=52.86) compared to the control group (M=26.84), despite similar pre-test scores (M=23.10 vs. M=23.42). Normality was confirmed through Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests, with all significance values above 0.05. Furthermore, the Independent Sample T-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (Sig. = 0.001 < 0.05), indicating that animation video significantly improved students' reading comprehension of recount texts compared to conventional teaching methods. In conclusion, animation video gives a significant effect on students' reading comprehension of recount text, as evidenced by the notable improvement in students' scores after its implementation. Therefore, animation video is recommended as an effective alternative instructional medium for English teachers, particularly in teaching recount text.
