Abstract

This research aims to design and evaluate a smart donation box prototype based on ESP32 and a TCS3200 color sensor for detecting paper currency denominations and recording donation data through website integration. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D), which included system design, prototype development, functional testing, and performance evaluation. The system was implemented in two prototype versions: prototype 1 using a single color sensor and prototype 2 using two color sensors to improve reading consistency. The test results showed that prototype 1 was able to detect certain denominations with varying levels of accuracy, achieving an average accuracy of 74.3%. Prototype 2 demonstrated improved reading consistency on specific denominations, namely Rp20,000, Rp50,000, and Rp2,000, which were detected with 100% accuracy. However, several other denominations were not successfully detected, indicating limitations in the color-based detection approach. These results highlight that the system performance depends on the characteristics of currency colors, calibration range, and sensor placement. Website integration testing showed that the system was able to transmit and display donation data in real time via a WiFi network, enabling online monitoring of donation records. Based on the research findings, the proposed system has been successfully developed as a prototype capable of detecting certain currency denominations and presenting donation data digitally, while further improvements are required to enhance detection accuracy for all denominations.
