Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ perceptions of the use of YouTube as a learning medium in improving English listening skills at SMP Negeri 5 Padang. This is a mixed-method research type. The study involved 100 students as respondents, and several were selected for interviews to gain deeper insights. questionaire and interview sheet are the instruments in collecting data. There are four components are included in questionaire items that related to Baron’s theory. Those are enhancing vocabulary acquisition, understanding different accents, improving motivation, and supporting self-regulated learning. Distributing questionaire and doing interview are used to collect the data. The results of this study indicate that students have positive perceptions of YouTube as a supplementary learning medium. More than 90% of students agreed or strongly agreed that YouTube helps them remember new vocabulary more easily and overcome common listening challenges such as fast speech, unclear pronunciation, and unfamiliar words. YouTube is considered effective. owed positive responses in cognitive, affective, and conative aspects. It is concluded that YouTube can be integrated into English learning, particularly in listening, to support classroom instruction and encourage independent learning.
