Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation and types of authentic assessment used by an English teacher at MAN 2 Padang for Grade XI students. The study is motivated by the importance of authentic assessment in the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), which emphasizes real-world learning, student engagement, and holistic evaluation. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using observation checklists, interviews, and document analysis to gather data. The findings reveal that the teacher effectively implemented authentic assessment by aligning assessment tasks with lesson objectives, incorporating real-life contexts, and encouraging active student participation. Various types of authentic assessment were utilized, including performance tasks, portfolios, demonstrations, and project-based activities. Among these, portfolio assessment was the most frequently applied due to its effectiveness in tracking student progress and supporting individualized feedback. The study also found that the assessments covered cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of student learning. No significant challenges were encountered by the teacher, suggesting a high level of preparedness and understanding of authentic assessments practices. This research highlights the importance of integrating diverse, meaningful assessment methods to enhance language learning and promote student-centered instruction in line with the goals of the Independent Curriculum.
