Abstract

This study aims to investigates the strategies employed by the English teacher at Pondok Pesantren Iqra’ Barung-Barung Belantai Pesisir Selatan in teaching English in class VIII. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation analysis. The findings showed that the teacher implemented various strategies such as Scaffolding and questioning strategy. These strategies were integrated with the Scientific Approach and Collaborative Learning model, creating an interactive, student-centered learning environment that enhanced students’ engagement, confidence, and comprehension abilities. The study concluded that combining Scaffolding and questioning strategy with appropriate teaching approaches can effectively improve student understanding in EFL contexts, particularly in junior high school level.
