Abstract

This study aimed to compare the speaking fluency of extrovert and introvert students at Class X E2 of MAN 1 Padang. This research applied a quantitative approach with a causal-comparative research design. The population of this study consists of all students in Class X E2 at MAN 1 Padang in the academic year 2025/2026, with a total of 34 students. The researcher categorized students into extrovert and introvert groups based on personality assessments. A speaking fluency test was used as the primary instrument to collect data. The data analysis technique used was the Welch t-test with a significance level of 5%. The test results, processed using SPSS 26, showed that extrovert students achieved significantly higher scores in speaking fluency than introvert students. The p-value for speed, length of run, repair and pause was 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference, while the repair aspect showed lower achievement in extroverts. This suggests that extroverts speak more fluently due to their confidence and reduced anxiety, whereas introverts tend to experience more hesitation. These findings supported relevance researches that stated students’ personality impact speaking fluency. It can be concluded that extrovert students generally have higher achievement in speaking fluency than introvert students.
