Abstract

Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics has its own characteristics if it is viewed from hermeneutics in general. Paul Ricoeur analyses school of hermeneutics that has already developed. He then tries to unite the schools in a much bigger scheme by appreciating the significant role played by the structuralist analysis. The unique of Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics lies in its study of text based on contect. Ricoeur’s concept of hermeneutics is classified as affirmative postmodernistic school. He is of the opinion that the role of an author is absent, for the author is absent at the time when someone tries to understand a text. What is really present in the text is the style of the author in the form of certain genre.
