Abstract
In the world of education, including Indonesia, English language skills are a very important aspect, teachers implement students' English in the classroom. Teachers are expected to be facilitators and motivators for students to improve students' speaking skills. This research aims to observe how CLT is applied in English language teaching in class 8 MTsN 5 Agam and to find out what types of CLT activities the teacher carries out during the English language learning process that can improve students' speaking skills. This research method is qualitative descriptive research. In collecting data, researchers used observation, interviews and documentation. Observations were carried out using an observation sheet and then observing the activities carried out in the classroom. Then the researcher collected data by interviewing the English teacher concerned at the school. The results of this research show that based on the RPP analysis, many activities written in the teacher's RPP are not fully implemented in the classroom. The results of observations made by researchers show that the only types of communicative language teaching activities carried out by teachers at the MTsN 5 Agam school during the learning process are using roleplay, storytelling and question and answer. And based on interviews with teachers at these schools, in implementing communicative language teaching in the classroom, teachers usually use dialogue or roleplay, storytelling. And the implementation of communicative language teaching at MTsN 5AGAM has not fully occurred in the classroom.
