Abstract

This study explores how teachers at SMAN 2 Sungai Limau are implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka in their writing classes. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research collected insights through interviews and documentation to understand how effectively the curriculum is being applied. The focus was on how teachers plan lessons, the teaching methods they use, how they evaluate students, and whether the materials are adequate. The findings show that teachers have successfully incorporated Kurikulum Merdeka into their writing instruction, which has led to better student engagement and learning. Teachers were creative in their approaches, combining digital and traditional tools to enhance learning. For example, Teacher A used YouTube to make lessons more interactive, helping students stay engaged and making the learning process more dynamic. Meanwhile, Teachers B and C used blackboards, maintaining effective communication of the material. When it came to evaluation, teachers used a mix of process and product assessments. This approach allowed them to track student progress and encourage continuous improvement in writing skills. However, the study also uncovered some challenges. One major issue was the need for more differentiated materials to meet the diverse needs of students. Another concern was the lack of culturally relevant content, which is essential for making the curriculum more inclusive and engaging for all students. In conclusion, the study highlights the strengths of the Kurikulum Merdeka in improving writing instruction at SMAN 2 Sungai Limau while also pointing out areas where the curriculum could be further refined to better support teachers and students.
