Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of spelling bee game and crossword puzzle on students vocabulary mastery at MTsS PPMTI Bayur students, This research used a quasi-experimental design method to collect empirical evidence on the using of spelling bee and crossword puzzle on students' vocabulary mastery in grade eight. This study uses the T-test to analyze students' post-test score result. In this test, sig results were found (2-tailed) 0.00 for experimental class and 0.072 control class, which was described that the value was lower than 0.05, indicating that spelling bee game and crossword puzzle game gave a significant effect on the students' vocabulary mastery using written test. The mean of the post test of the experimental class was 49.33 and the control class was 43.36 It means that the effectiveness spelling bee game and crossword puzzle on student vocabulary mastery was higher than conventional technique. So there was significant efffect between students' vocabulary mastery using the Spelling Bee Game and Cross Word Puzzle, students’ vocabulary in recount text. Thus it stated that hypotheses (Ha) was accepted and (Ho) was rejected. The conclusion that spelling bee and crossword puzzle was effective on increasing student vocabulary mastery.
