Abstract
This study aims to determine what strategies English teachers use in teaching English speaking in class IX MTsS Thawalib Putri Padang Panjang. this research is a type of qualitative research. the method of data collection used in this study is by conducting observations, interviews and documentation. this research was conducted at MTsS Thawalib Putri Padang Panjang. the results of this study indicate that the strategies used by English teachers in class IX. A MTsS Thawalib Putri Padang Panjang consists of 3 strategies, namely: (1) Problem-based learning strategy, where students do reasoning on a problem given by the teacher. (2) Discussion Strategies, where the teacher divides students into groups based on the candy they get to discuss the right answers to fill in the questions that have been prepared. (3) Window shopping strategy, where students do the learning process like sellers and buyers where one group explains the product being sold and the other group looks to ask questions and assess the findings of the product.
