Abstract
The main objective of this research is to determine the strategies used by English teachers in class IX MTsN 9 Padang Pariaman in teaching reading comprehension and speaking skills. This study used a qualitative research method. The subjects of this research were two class IX teachers at MTsN 9 Padang Pariaman. The required data is collected using observation and interviews. Based on the results of observations and interviews with the two teachers, they used the QAR, scaffolding strategy in teaching reading comprehension and group discussion, Presentation, and drilling strategies in teaching speaking skills. The results of this research reveal that teachers apply teaching strategies for reading comprehension and speaking skills in three stages. First, the opening begins with greetings, taking attendance, and reviewing previous learning material. Second, the main activity includes the learning material, and third, the closing contains the conclusions of the learning material.
