Abstract

This thesis aims to figure out is there any significant effect of quarted card games on students’ speaking skills at grade VIII MTsN 2 Bukittinggi. The scope of the research is focused to teach Describing things (Describing people, place and things) by using Quartet card game. The method of research is quantitative method, the design of this research is quasi-experimental. The number of the sample in this research is 64 students in experimental and control class. The sampling technique was chosen by using random cluster sampling from class. Samples of this research are VIII-3 and VIII-4 as the experimental class and control class. The experimental class was taught by using quartet card game and control class was taught without quartet card game. The instrument of this research was a test, especially speaking oral test. It was conducted after the students getting treatments. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 25. The mean score of the experimental class is 72.8 and the mean score of the control class is 62.40 (αρ< α (0.00 < 0.05) which mean H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted. Based on the data above it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using quartet card games on students' speaking skills at grade VIII MTsN 2 Bukittingi. This means that the quartet card game is effective for improving students' speaking skills.
