Abstract

Linguistic intelligence, the ability to formulate clear ideas by using words competently in spoken and written language, both in the first or second language and even in foreign languages, is one of the many natural human abilities that have existed since humans were born. When students use this potential to the fullest, it is possible that they will master any language skills in a foreign language, such as speaking skills in English. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the relationship between linguistic intelligence and the results of learning to speak English at MTsN 7 Pesisir Selatan. After conducting research using the correlation technique, the authors found that the relationship between linguistic intelligence and the results of learning to speak English in eighth grade students was very high. This is shown by the results of calculating the correlation formula (0.975), where this score shows a very high relationship. Therefore, the authors suggest that teachers can always accompany and assist students in developing the potential of their linguistic intelligence. So that their English-speaking skills can develop properly. And for students to practice and re-sharpen the linguistic intelligence they have each been accompanied by the teacher.
