Abstract

ABSTRACT SRI WAHYUNI (2023) : “The Correlation Between Students’ Self-Esteem and Their Speaking Ability of The Second Grades Students at Mts N 1 Kota Pariaman” The aims of this study were to: know whether there was a significant correlation between self-esteem and speaking ability of the second grade students at Mts N 1 Kota Pariaman. This research was conducted by using a correlational research design. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and test. The questionnaire was used to collect the data about students’ self-esteem while the test was obtaining information about students’ speaking ability. From 249 research population, 32 of them were taken to be samples by the use of cluster random sampling technique. To analyze the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment correlation through SPSS 29.0 program. It is found that rxy= (0.157) was smaller than r table (0.349) at the level 5%. It meant that, there was no correlation. Based on the data, the researcher concludes that Null Hypothesis (H0) is accepted and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. In other words, there is no significant correlation between students’ self-esteem and their speaking ability of the second grades students at MTs N 1 Kota Pariaman.
