Abstract

ABSTRAK Srigus Okta Diani, (1314050556) : Pengaruh Round Table Technique Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Siswa Dalam Narrative Text di MTsN 4 Pesisir Selatan Kurangnya pengetahuan siswa dalam memahami lima komponen menulis menjadi latar belakang dari penelitian ini. Siswa tidak tahu bagaimana memulai menulis. Mereka sulit dalam menemukan ide serta mengembangkanya kedalam bentuk tulisan. Kemudian mereka juga mengalami kesulitan dalam menyusun ide-ide tersebut menjadi paragraph yang mudah dipahami. Begitu juga dengan tiga komponen menulis lainya (vocabulary, language use, dan mechanic) sehingga menulis adalah kegiatan yang sulit bagi siswa. Oleh karena itu dibutuhkan usaha supaya menulis tidak lagi menjadi hal yang sulit bagi siswa. Salah satunya dengan menerapkan Technique yang tepat. Technique tersebut adalah Round Table Technique. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada hasil tulisan siswa antara siswa yang dijarkan dengan menggunakan Round Table Technique dengan siswa yang diajarkan tanpa menggunakan Round Table Technique. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas VIII MTsN 4 Pesisir Selatan yang terdiri dari 133 siswa dan dibagi kedalam 5 kelas. Kemudian peneliti mengambil sampel dengan cara cluster sampling. Hasilnya kelas VIII D sebagai kelas ekperimen yang terdiri dari 27 siswa dan kelas VIII E sebagai kelas pembanding yang terdiri dari 27 siswa. Dalam mengumpulkan data peneliti menggunakan tes tertulis. Tes diberikan sesudah diperlakukan treatment selama enam kali pertemuan untuk melihat pengaruh penggunaan Round Table Technique. Penelitian ini dianalisa dengan menggunakan prosedur statistic. T-test digunakan untuk menganalisa nilai post-test siswa. Data hasil penelitian dianalisa dengan menggunakan regresi 5% (0.05). Hasil penelitian menunjukan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa di kelas ekperimen (79.48) lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata post-test siswa di kelas pembanding (69.85). Selain itu, t-hitung (6.92) lebih besar daripada t-table (2.000). Disamping itu, masing-masing komponen menulis juga meningkat. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari perbandingan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa. Secara statistik, terlihat bahwa pengajaran menulis dengan menggunakan Round Table Technique memberikan perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa. Singkatnya, bisa disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Round Table adalah salah satu strategi pengajaran untuk menyelesaikan masalah penulisan siswa. Dan teknik ini dapat meningkat kan penulisan siswa. This study was based on students’ low mastery of five components of writing. Students did not know how to start their writing. They got difficulties in generating their ideas and developing it into written form. Then, they also got difficulties in ordering the ideas into coherent and cohesive paragraph. Besides that, they also had low mastery of vocabulary, language use, and mechanic. Consequently writing was still hard activity for students. Therefore, it is needed an effort to write that made writing is not difficult activity anymore for students. One of the efforts is by applying an appropriate technique that is Round Table Technique. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is any significant difference on students’ writing ability between the students who are taught by using Round Table Technique and those who are taught without using Round Table Technique at class VIII of Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan. The population of study was all of the students at class VIII Islamic Junior High School 4 Pesisir Selatan that consist of 133 students who were divided into five classes. Then, the researcher took class VIII D and VIII E as the sample. Where class VIII D as the experiment class that consist of 27 students and VIII E as control class that consist of 27 students. In collecting the data, researcher used written test. The test was given to both classes with the same topic. Then, post-test was given after doing treatments for six meetings to determine the effect of using Round Table Technique. This research was analyzed by using statistical procedures. T-test was used to analyze the students’ score. The data was analyzed by using simple regression with 5% (0.05). The result of this research showed that mean scores of students’ writing in experiment class (79.48) is higher than the mean score of students’ writing in control class (69.85). While, t-calculate (6.92) is also higher than t-table (2.000). Moreover, each components of writing both of classes are different. It can be seen from the comparison of students’ mean scores of post-test. Statistically, it is showed that teaching writing by using Round Table Technique gives significant difference on students’ writing skill. The use of Round Table Technique is one of English teaching technique to solve the student’s problem on writing. This technique can be recommended to improve students’ writing skill.
