Abstract
The Students’ English Language Anxiety and Speaking Skill at Grade XI MAN 2 Kota Padang Anxiety is a part of human personality. It is described as a condition that make language learning situations problematic and can be troublesome. English speaking skill is very important for process of learning English in the classroom. This is because the curriculum and subject matter provided for class XI currently requires students to convey ideas, thoughts, feelings, and expressions orally. For this reason, the researcher wanted to find out the correlation between the students' English language anxiety and their speaking skill. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a correlation between the two variables at grade XI of MAN 2 Kota Padang. The method used in this research was quantitative method and the technique is correlational technique. The population of this research was all of the students at grade XI that consist of 422 students who were divided into 13 classes and the researcher used Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling to determine the number of students to be taken per class. In collecting data, researcher distributed questionnaire from FLCAS from Horwitz (1986) and students’ speaking score and find out that there is a very low/weak correlation between the two variables.
