Abstract

2022. Analysis of Students’ Reading Comprehension on English Text in The Eighth Grade of Junior High School 26 Padang This study was motivated by issues found by researcher that many students in Indonesia have difficulties in comprehending English texts although they have studied English since they were in elementary schools. the phenomena show some factors. First, the students are unfamiliar with the vocabulary. This caused the students do not know the meaning of the text. Second, most of the students just read the text without comprehending and finding the information from the text. Third, some students are uninteresting with reading activity. Researcher chose eight grade of Junior High School 26 Padang. The population of this research is 102 students, respondents of this research are 25 students, class VIII.1 (8 students), VIII.2 (8 students), and VIII.3 (9 students). This study is decriptive quantitative with reading test as instrument. Fungsional text in the test consists of Short message (main idea, supporting detail, and making inference), Notice (Supporting detail), and Greeting card (Supporting detail). Then recount text consists of personal recount (main idea, supporting detail, and understanding vocabulary). The result of this study students reading comprehension shows that their understanding of main idea is categorized good, in supporting idea is categorized as good, then, in making inference is categorized as moderate Lastly, in understanding vocabulary is categorized as good, and overall reading comprehension of class VIII is categorized as good. The weakness is that this research is only conducted once through google form because in order to get full assessment of students reading comprehension it need several times test.
