Abstract

Digital transformation in philanthropic organizations such as the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of Padang City through the SIPADU application faces operational and security risks regarding sensitive biometric data. The initial prototype of SIPADU, which uses a monolithic architecture, has limitations in directly handling high identity extraction and biometric computational workloads for Electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) services which functions to validate mustahik's physical identity and document ownership digitally to minimize fictitious accounts and social aid misuse potentially triggering a single point of failure and vulnerability to fraudulent mustahik accounts. This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate a microservices architecture that isolates e-KYC computational workloads to ensure the "3 Aman" principles (Aman Syar'i, Aman Regulasi, and Aman NKRI). System development utilizes the Incremental Model divided into three main increments, which include identity extraction microservices utilizing a KTP OCR Module in the first increment, biometric verification microservices utilizing a Face Match and Liveness Detection Module in the second increment, and system integration orchestration using an API Gateway, Redis Message Broker (BullMQ), and distributed data storage across four independent Supabase projects in the third increment. Evaluation of the KTP OCR module shows a Character Error Rate (CER) of 13.55%, which is mitigated by an NIK scanning fallback and interactive manual editing form. In biometric testing, the Face Match module records a False Negative (FN) of 3 and a False Positive (FP) of 0 out of 90 negative tests, while the Liveness Detection module records an FN of 9 and an FP of 5 out of 40 negative tests due to testing environment. Load testing using k6 with 709 requests shows a 0% drop rate and a highly responsive median API Gateway response time of 1.3 seconds. Fault testing confirms that the system successfully isolates operational failures without disrupting the core application. This study concludes that the implementation of a microservices architecture successfully isolates image processing and biometric computational workloads reliably, increases mustahik verification accuracy, and solidifies compliance with the "3 Aman" principles of public zakat fund management
